The Emergency Locum Service Scheme ("ELS Scheme") is an initiative of the Rural and Remote Pharmacy Workforce Development Program, for the purpose of providing support to pharmacists in rural and remote areas through direct access to the pharmacist Locums in Emergency situations. ELS is backed and funded by the Federal Government.
The Pharmaceutical Locum Company has been selected to manage this incentive throughout Australia.
This service is only available to rural pharmacy owners in true emergencies.
Example: The death of a pharmacist, spouse or family member; or
Personal emergency such as sickness or accident.
With the shortage of qualified pharmacists, especially in rural areas, communities were finding themselves frequently without a pharmacy to dispense vital medication. Rural community pharmacies were frequently closing due to sickness or other emergencies.
Pharmacies are considered an essential service, therefore, The Pharmacy Guild of Australia together with the Federal Government found a solution in the form of the introduction of ELS to service Rural Australia.

Yes, your award states that suitable arrangements for meals be made by the employer, and you are reimbursed for expenses deemed "REASONSABLE" under the award.
The pharmacy will make arrangements to pay you direct.
If the pharmacy does not have easy access to accommodation, or does not have time to organise it, our travel agent will arrange your accommodation at the same time as your travel. Usually the pharmacy will take care of this. You pay for nothing.
That's fantastic!
It is impossible to predict when an emergency arises or in which State. Generally speaking we get about 2 emergencies a month. We obviously call on locums available in the same State as the emergency first and then if no-one is able to assist then we contact locums out of State.
We also ask you to complete a "Feedback Form" on completion of your assignment.
The Pharmaceutical Locum Company in association with Unique Travel will organise all transportation requirements. That means, if you need a flight, a train, a hire care and a pony to get to that pharmacy, our travel partners will organise it all from whoa to go.
Our funding allows for these costs.
We will try and specify an e-ticket in most cases; in other instances we will courier the tickets to you.
Unique Travel is available to Pharmacies & locums 24 hours a day - 7 days a week.
